Has their memory been lost?

Friday, July 14th, 2006

A couple of weekends ago my fellow 2nd Division Living History brothers and I attended the 4th of July parade in Ralston, NE. It was an amazing experience but it wasn’t quite what I expected it to be. The 4th of July has always given me a sense of pride and complete gratitude to all of the brave men and women sacrificed so much to give us our freedoms.

While walking through the parade I found that people don’t seem to recognize the importance of our history as a nation. Some seemed more concerned with catching candy thrown from the van of a local radio station. Others seemed more inclined to scream by the passing of a theatre group. Please don’t misunderstand me, I am not a living historian to gain any kind of personal glory for myself. I do this to help educate others (as I educate myself) of the importance of history and the experiences of our forefathers. Without them we wouldn’t have the wonderful lives we have been blessed with.

As we move through our lives we must remain vigilant to never forget those who have come before us or those who fight for us now. They are our heroes!
