The truth is captured in the photos
As a living historian I feel that accurately portraying the WWII U.S. combat veteran to of the up most importance. An individual can read the FM21-100 basic field manual cover to cover and still only see a small window into the lives of the men who were there. Thanks to the brave work of combat photographers like Dickey Chapelle and Fred Bornet we now have a real first-hand look at our troops and what they went into combat with.
I ran across this site the other day. It has a number of wonderful photographs showing the men of the Second Infantry Divison in action. Please take a look for yourself. I know you will learn something that will help you to build your impression.
